Feeling Floral

Today’s outfit of the day is inspired by spring blooms, which haven’t made an appearance yet in Ottawa. I picked up this floral dress for only $26.50 at Garage. Patterns aren’t usually my thing, but I am trying to go outside my comfort zone this season.

I paired the dress with my Aritzia Kent blazer and brown Aldo oxfords (which are horribly uncomfortable, by the way). Happy spring (finally)!

Body Chain

I went out on Friday and had the chance to wear some of the new things I bought recently, most notably my new body chain I found at Aldo! The weather is also finally starting to warm up, so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to wear a skirt.

Essie Resort Fling

Spring has sprung… Well, kind of. At least my nails are bright and cheery and I sound slightly less depressed in my posts.

Essie Resort Fling

Resort Fling, from Essie’s 2014 collection of the same name, is a semi-sheer coral-peachy colour that is a mix between a creme and jelly finish. I applied four thin coats for more opacity. It would still look good with three or less, I think. It was my favourite from the entire collection so I only picked this one up! I found mine for $8.95 from Nail Polish Canada.

Have you tried any other colours from Essie’s Resort Fling collection? Let me know in the comments!

Skater Skirts

I’ve never made an order from Nasty Gal before. Quite frankly, their sizing confuses me, so I regularly go through the motions of adding items to my cart and then closing the screen. I really don’t own a lot of skirts (maybe under three?), and I’ve really been wanting to add more to my collection this spring. Here are the two I’ve been stalking.

Garden Days Skater Skirt, $42

Scuba Skater Skirt in Peach, $42

I’ve really been loving pastels and florals for spring. What have you been lusting over lately? Let me know in the comments!

Saturday Night

I’ve been going out more lately, and I finally wore one of the tops I got from my recent shopping trip a few weeks ago on a Saturday night!

top: dynamite, shiny leggings: garage, necklace: american apparel

Don’t mind Rocky in the background. Have a good week!

Plum Luck + Shine of the Times + Matte

We’re getting 10-15 cms of snow today. How’s that for spring? It definitely still feels like winter and I have absolutely zero desire to paint my nails anything bright or cheery, so instead I did this.

The base coat is Sally Hansen’s “Plum Luck” and the matte topper is NYC’s “Matte Me Crazy!” Then I decided to add Essie’s “Shine of the Times” to not just one, but two nails. Exciting stuff everybody. Now if someone could just deliver spring, I would be happy.

I’ve Got The Winter Blues…

But really, who doesn’t at this time of year? I remember two years ago at this exact time (when I was still in school), I wore a TANK TOP to class. Yes, a tank top. And now, this year I’m still stuck wearing layers upon layers during my commute to work – not cute!

Well I tried to beat the winter blues by going on a few little shopping trips. First up I went to Forever 21. I’m going to preface this by saying that Forever 21′s website is a black hole, so I’ll do my best finding everything I got in store online.

Cuddled Up Bouclé Cardigan (in black), $35.80

Whimsical Woven Crop Top, $15.80

Dainty Lace Crop Top, $9.80

Floral Lace Bikini (top only), $5.80

Next up, I got a few things online from Dynamite. They recently added some new items to their spring collection, and my closet was craving some colour and patterns.

V-Neck Tunic Tee, $34.90Sleeveless Blouse with Front Pleat, $29.90

Crepe Cropped Cami, $8.00 (on sale)

I realize that some of these tops aren’t work appropriate, but I will get a lot of use out of them on weekends and evenings. So that’s all for today (and I think I’m good for a little while)! Hopefully I can wear some of these things soon – spring is only 12 days away!

Also, I’ve had this song stuck in my head for the past two days, so I thought I would share with you all as well! Happy Friday!

Essie Stylenomics + As Gold As It Gets

It’s still freezing where I live, unfortunately, and cold winter days call for dark nail polish.

Oops – a bit messy this time! A few weeks ago I decided to paint my nails with Essie’s Stylenomics, a deep forest green that dries to an almost-black colour. It’s an opaque cream colour and it’s perfect for fall/winter. I decided I wanted to try something different, so I added Essie’s As Gold As It Gets on the tips of each nail. I liked it while it lasted! I find that Essie polishes chip really easily.

What are you favourite Essie shades? Let me know in the comments!

OPI Liquid Sand “Silent Stars Go By”

About a week before I moved into my new place, I stopped by Trade Secrets with a friend because they were having an OPI sale. I had been stalking OPI Liquid Sand polishes for months online and had yet to bite the bullet and grab a shade whenever I was at the mall. But this day was different! I think they were having a 30% off sale, so the usual $10 price tag was slashed down to $7 – score!

This particular shade is called “Silent Stars Go By” and it’s part of Mariah Carey’s Holiday 2013 collection, which explains why it was on sale. I guess Trade Secrets was moving stock for more spring appropriate colours (aka pastels galore). I would describe this shade as a light dusty rose with strong silver undertones. Once the shade fully dried it looked mostly silver. I have to say, I am impressed. I applied it last Sunday (after forgetting I had bought it – oops!), and it’s nearly one week later and I only have a bit of tip wear. It has a slight gritty texture, but it doesn’t feel overly rough and hasn’t caught on my clothing or any other fabric. It’s long lasting and has survived lots of dish washing this past week. I would definitely recommend!

Have you tried any Liquid Sand polishes by OPI? What about other brands? Let me know in the comments!
